Earlier this morning in New Jersey, the International Boxing Federation held the purse bid for the mandatory junior welterweight fight between champion Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15KOs) and challenger Zab Judah (42-7, 29KOs).
BoxingScene.com was informed that the sole bidder was Barry Hunter, the manager and trainer of Peterson, who submitted the minimum bid of $50,000. There is a 75/25 split in favor of the champion and the parties have 15 days from today to submit sign contracts or to get an extension from the IBF.
If the parties fail to get a deal together, then another purse bid may get ordered. Obviously the boxers are not going to fight for the minimum bid of 50K, which Hunter submitted to secure the rights - and it's more than likely that Hunter will attempt to bring this fight to Peterson's hometown of Washington, DC. Both of the fighters are free agents so it remains to be seen if another promoter will get involved in staging the show.
