In co-feature to Ricardo Torres-Kendall Holt at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, junior welterweight prospect Lamont Peterson (25-0, 12 KOs) stopped veteran Rogelio Castaneda Jr. (24-14-3, 8 KOs) in the ninth-round.
Peterson started with a quick jab in the early-rounds, but began to punish Castaneda around the fourth-round. In the fifth, Castaneda attempted to return fire, but was too slow and did not punch hard enough to change the fight. Castaneda looked spent by the eight, bleeding and barely able to put a decent combination together.
A hard right hand dropped Castaneda in the ninth. The fight was stopped a few moments later as Peterson tried to finish.

Riverside’s Michael Franco remained undefeated (12-0, 8 KO), scoring a 59-53, 59-54(twice) unanimous decision over Houston’s Javier Lagos in a super flyweight bout. The experienced Lagos (15-11-2, 4 KO) proved elusive early on in the bout until the persistent Franco caught up with him, flooring Lagos hard with a right hand in round 5. Franco pressed hard in the 6th and final round for the knockout as Lagos did well to survive.
Houston’s Don Mouton jumped on Brooklyn’s Josiah Judah from the opening bell, scoring a knockdown, followed up by a barrage of punches to score a TKO at 1:42 of the opening round. Judah lost his undefeated record (9-1-1, 2KO) and did himself no favors with some unnecessary bravado at Friday’s weigh-in that Mouton apparently didn’t forget. Mouton improved to 5-2-1, (4 KO) in the scheduled 4 round middleweight bout and had a few chest pounding gestures for the defeated Judah.
In a female super bantamweight bout, Ana Julaton and Johanna Mendez both suffered the first blemishes on their records in fighting to a 6 round draw. The taller Julaton (4-0-1, 1 KO) started fast and played the role of aggressor with Houston’s Mendez (3-0-1) showing some nice left hook counterpunching to prevent the aggressive Julaton from ever gaining any momentum. San Francisco native and Freddie Roach trained Julaton, fought thru a nasty cut over her right eye during the last two rounds.
Ultra-tough Carlos Vinan of Newark, NJ earned a 57-57, 57-56 (twice) majority decision over previously undefeated Andrew Cancio (8-1-2,8KO) in an entertaining 6 round super featherweight bout. Not known for his punching power, the improving Vinan (8-6-3, 1KO) floored Cancio in the 4th round with a perfectly timed right hand. Vinan had to walk thru plenty of fire from the hard-punching Cancio, providing rock-em-sock-em type action that left the crowd cheering throughout the bout.
