WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao likes the idea of a revenge fight with Miguel Cotto, now the WBA champion at junior middleweight and trained by Emanuel Steward. Pacquiao's adviser Michael Koncz informed Primera Hora that he spoke with Pacquiao about a Cotto rematch and the Filipino fighter liked the idea. Pacquiao knocked Cotto out in the twelfth round last November in Las Vegas.
Before any move can be made, Pacquiao and his team are waiting to see if Floyd Mayweather Jr. will accept a proposal for a November 13 fight. Mayweather was sent the proposal a few days ago and has until mid-July to accept the terms. A rematch with Cotto would take place at a catch-weight, likely around 150 or 151-pounds.
"I talked to Manny in the Philippines and he likes the idea of a rematch with Cotto if the fight against Mayweather, Jr. is not signed. Mayweather has until July 15 to review the documents and sign them. If not, we won't lose any sleep and turn our attention to Cotto. Mayweather needs Manny more than we of him (Mayweather, Jr.)."
"I don't think weight is a problem. I'm sure he would come to an agreement. There have been no formal talks, so it's a little premature."
