Frank Espinoza has advised BoxingScene.com that his fighter Oscar Valdez (25-0) will return to the ring on June 8th in the main event of an ESPN televised card. His opponent is expected to be announced in the near future.
Valdez, who holds the WBO featherweight title, was last in action in February when he stopped Carmine Tommasone in 7 rounds in Texas. It was his first fight since suffering a broken jaw in his March, 2018 victory over Scott Quigg. It was also his first fight under the guidance of Eddy Reynoso who is best known for being Canelo Alvarez's long time trainer.
The veteran manager believes that after getting another fight under his belt with Reynoso that his fighter will be ready for anyone in the featherweight division. He said that if all goes well on June 8th that he would like to see Valdez face former champion Carl Frampton who recently signed a co-promotional deal with Top Rank.
"June 8th is the date we have been given for Oscar's next fight. I would like a fight against Frampton after this one," Espinoza told BoxingScene.com.
Valdez captured his title in 2016 when he blasted out Matias Rueda in 2 rounds. He has defended his title 5 times.
Reno, Nevada has been mentioned as a possible location for the June 8th fight.
