Oscar Valdez doesn't have a confirmed fight date or opponent for his next ring appearance, but that hasn't prevented him from getting ready for whatever the future has in store.
The unbeaten featherweight - who served on the 2008 and 2012 Mexico Olympic boxing teams - has opened up camp in Los Angeles, in anticipation of a fight on a card to be announced in December.
Upon such a fight materializing, it will mark the fourth ring appearance of what has been a breakthrough 2015 campaign.
“I am looking forward to fighting one more time here in 2015 so that I close what has been a very productive year with one more solid outing,” said Valdez (17-0, 15KOs) in a statement released through his team, which includes manager Frank Espinoza and Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum.
His last ring appearance came in September, scoring a one-sided 5th round knockout of Chris Avalos. The win over the former super bantamweight contender was just the latest step in Valdez' career progression. The 24-year old made his debut on HBO's flagship station in June, scoring a lopsided 10-round decision win over countryman Ruben Tamayo at StubHub Center in Carson, California.
His HBO appearance came seven months following a 7th round knockout win over Alberto Garza last November on HBO Latino. The aforementioned win over Chris Avalos headlined the September 11 edition of MetroPCS Friday Night Knockout series on truTV, a sister company of HBO under the Time Warner family.
While there's no guarantee his next fight is showcased by the American cable giant or any of its affiliate networks, the expectation is to land the type of fight that builds on momentum towards an eventual title run.
“This has been a very good year in terms of exposure and very good opposition,” said Valdez, who will complete three full years in the pro ranks come November. “I hope that 2016 will be an even better and bigger year for my career.
“We just starting training camp this week and will work hard like I always do, so that when fight night comes around I will ready to give the fans a great and entertaining fight,” said Valdez.
