After numerous complaints from fans that felt the rematch was stopped too early as Ortiz was on top of Shamrock and unloading with elbows, the UFC scheduled the trilogy bout on free TV via Spike television, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, FL.

The trilogy meeting between rival Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock was a mirror image of their second meeting, except it lasted longer.

It was another blowout, Ortiz got Shamrock down with ease, this time Shamrock was able to defend himself a little better, but the end result was still the same. Ortiz battered Shamrock from the top until the fight was stopped at 2:23 of the first round.

After the bout, the two rivals shook hands. Ken Shamrock announced his retirement from Mixed Martial Arts after the bout.

"I thought I could do something tonight, but I received a huge reality check," Shamrock said. "I thought the last time it was stopped short, and it was, but the outcome would have been the same as tonight. I love this sport from the time there was no rules and no time limits to what it has evolved to today, with all the young fighters coming up. I wanted to make it more of a fight tonight, but father time set in and I just can't compete with these guys, as much as I want to it's not going to happen. I thank the fans for all their support over the years."

Ortiz on the other hand is now looking forward to another grudge match, against Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell.

"Liddell is the world champion now. I want redemption and my world title back. There is nothing better than getting the world title back around my waist," Ortiz said.
