Tommy Oosthuizen will defend his IBO super-middleweight title at Emperors Palace on November 10.
His sixth defense will be on the same bill as the Super 8 cruiserweight final between Thabiso Mchunu and Danie Venter.
Promoters Golden Gloves announced on Tuesday that 35 year-old Colombian Fulgencio Zuniga would challenge Oosthuizen for the title the South African retained against Rowland Bryant in New York recently.
If he beats Zuniga, Oosthuizen is likely to return to the United States next year.
Despite a commendable career record of 25 wins and five defeats, Zuniga has lost two of his last four fights. Victory over an opponent ranked 59th by the IBO was his best result.
Oosthuizen said on Tuesday he would enter the ring in peak condition, motivated by appearing in front of his growing band of supporters.
"Boxing in America is a real eye-opener," said Oosthuizen, "but there is nothing like hearing the buzz and getting into the ring in front of you own fans."
His trainer, Harold Volbrecht, said South Africa still had to see the best of Oosthuizen. “He is improving with each fight."
Promoter Rodney Berman announced that, in addition to the R300 000 purse and African Boxing Union title that the winner of the Super Eight final would get, Venter and Mchunu would compete for a place in the recently announced WBC World Cup of Boxing series.
The series will feature top fighters from ten regions affiliated to the organising association.
"Even the first-round loser will receive about R150 000,” Berman said. Each of the winners in the eight divisions will earn about R1.5 million.
Berman labelled Venter "The Cinderlella Man” of SA boxing, saying one could “spin a coin to determine the winner" of the Super 8 final.
In another fight on the bill Gideon Buthelezi will take on a Filipino, Edrin Dapudong.
And Ryno Liebenberg and Zambia's Donald Kampamba will fight for the IBO All-Africa light-heavyweight title.
