Same fighters. Same location. Same stakes. Different placement on the marquee.
A rematch between middleweight contenders Olivia Curry and Kaye Scott will be the main event on December 20 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan, according to Salita Promotions. The show will stream on DAZN.
They first fought at that very venue in September, battling to an entertaining draw on the undercard of Brandon Moore vs. DeAndre Savage. Two judges had it 95-95, overruling the sole 98-92 card for Scott. Neither woman was able to take home the vacant WBA and WBC titles that night. Both belts will again be on the line.
“A draw is always an unsatisfying result for something you’ve worked so hard for," Curry, now 7-2-2 (2 KOs), said in a press release. “Of course I wanted to win. I put so much work into preparing for that fight, but after watching the fight back, I think it was a fair decision. Credit to Kaye, she fought in a way we hadn’t really seen on tape from her before, using that amateur-style volume. I landed the harder shots, but I gave up too much time in between those moments.
“This time, I’m making small adjustments, staying sharp, and not letting her control the pace,” added Curry, a 35-year-old from Chicago. “I came into the first fight too polite, just happy to be on the big stage. This time, I’m coming in with bad intentions. It’s not worth bleeding on the canvas for anything less than those belts.”
Scott, now 4-1-1 (0 KOs), disagreed that the verdict was just.
“I know I won that last fight with Olivia Curry, and this time I’m not leaving the ring without those belts,” said the 41-year-old from Sydney, Australia. “I’ve never been more focused and determined in my life. I can’t wait to put on a show on December 20.”
For both women, this is another shot at glory after recent disappointments. Curry lost a unanimous decision to Shadasia Green at super middleweight in 2023; Green has gone on to become a unified titleholder at 168lbs. Scott, meanwhile, lost a unanimous decision to Desley Robinson last December in a bout for the vacant IBF belt at 160lbs.
Also scheduled for this card is Detroit resident Tony Harrison, 30-4-1 (21 KOs). The former junior middleweight titleholder spent 28 months out of the ring following a March 2023 TKO loss to Tim Tszyu and returned this July, visiting the canvas in the ninth round but leaving with a points win over the 15-6 Edward Ulloa Diaz. Harrison will face Brian Damian Chaves, 15-7 (6 KOs), in a 10-round middleweight bout.
“I feel great coming back,” Harrison said. “I was put on this earth to fight. It’s been about 12 years since I fought at home, and to have my last two fights here in Detroit is a dream come true. [...] Soon enough, we’ll be in a bigger fight again and shock the world.”
And heavyweight prospect Pryce Taylor, 9-0 (6 KOs), will step in with Michael Coffie, 13-5 (10 KOs), in an eight-rounder.
