Brandon Moore defeated his third unbeaten fighter in a row, as he outboxed DeAndre Savage on Friday night in a 10-round main event at the Fox Theatre in Detroit.
The scores were 100-89, 99-90, and 100-89.
Since signing with Salita Promotions in January, Moore has defeated unbeaten Skylar Lacy, Stanley Wright, and now he has taken the perfect record of Flint, Michigan’s Savage.
Moore fought a disciplined fight for the first three rounds, controlling the range with his jab. Moore began to land a chopping right hand on Savage in the fourth round, while Savage’s hands began to drop. The 31-year-old Moore fought a patient fight as well in the fifth, continuing to fight behind his jab as his right hand began to land more often. Moore continued to dictate the action with his right hand, which led to Moore knocking Savage down with that shot in the seventh round. Moore fought a composed fight on the outside, while Savage pushed forward, but was unable to create an effective offense. Moore was dominant, though it wasn’t as exciting as many might expect a heavyweight bout to be.
Moore of Lakeland, Florida, improves to 19-0 (10 KOs). Savage, 34, now sits at 10-1 (10 KOs).
The co-feature saw women’s middleweights Olivia Curry of Chicago and Kaye Scott of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, fight to a 10-round majority draw in a bout that was contested for the vacant WBA and WBC titles. One judge saw the bout 98-92 for Scott, with the other two judges seeing the bout 95-95.
An aggressive Curry pressed forward early, while Scott landed clean, straight punches of her own in evenly matched exchanges in the first three rounds. Curry was cut in round three as blood trickled over the side of her left eye. It was Curry’s aggression versus the counter-punching of Scott. Each round saw both fighters have their moments in an evenly contested fight. The tenth and final round might have been the best (and a contender for “Round of the Year”), with both pushing for the victory. Scott pushed Curry back to the ropes, as Curry landed a right hand that snapped Scott’s head back. The fight ended with Scott landing a jab and a right hand smiling when walking back to her corner.
With the draw, no titleholder was crowned.
Curry, 35, is now 7-2-2 (3 KOs) and has back-to-back draws in her last two fights. Scott, 41, is now 4-1-1 and is 0-1-1 in title fights in her career.
Super middleweight Da’velle Smith of Taylor, Michigan, scored a second-round knockout over Cartagena, Colombia’s Janer Gonzalez. The time of the stoppage was 2:59. Smith first dropped Gonzalez with a left hook in the second round. The fight ended with Smith landing a left hook followed by a right hand.
Smith, 25, who trains with SugarHill Steward, improves to 14-0 (9 KOs), while the 38-year-old Gonzalez
In the opening bout, heavyweight Sardius Simmons of Flint, Michigan, won a six-round unanimous decision over Lemir Isom Riley of New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. The scores were 58-56, 58-56, and 59-55.
Simmons, 32, improves to 4-0 (2 KOs), and Riley, 29, falls to 5-7 (3 KOs).
