Nathan Gorman has been forced to deal with an opponent swap ahead of his next fight.
The undefeated heavyweight had been set to vie for the English title in less than two weeks.
Gorman (10-0, 8 KOs) was meant to come up against Nick Webb (11-0, 9 KOs) for the belt on November 11, exclusively live on BoxNation and BT Sport.
But the 21-year-old will now fight for the vacant WBC International Silver heavyweight crown against undefeated German Mohamed Soltby at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, as part of the undercard to Frank Warren’s ‘No Ifs, No Buts’ card topped by the rematch between Liam Smith and Liam Williams in a final eliminator for the WBO super-welterweight world title.
“This is another step up and the winner will push right up the world rankings,” Gorman wrote on Facebook after the news was revealed on Friday on Bunce’s Boxing Hour, “so it is an opportunity that’s too good to refuse.”
Soltby (13-0, 8 KOs) is a 26-year-old German-based Russian. He had already been set for action on the undercard, but after not lacing up the gloves since March he stepped up to the plate and took the fight with Gorman.
The card is a good one and features a number of other top fights.
Tommy Ward makes the first defence of his British super-bantamweight title against Sean Davis and Josh Leather aims to keep hold of his IBF European super-lightweight bauble against Glenn Foot in what is something of a local derby.
Josh’s brother Kalam Leather boxes on the card, while there is action for Mark Heffron, Joe Maphosa, Michael Watson and Troy Williamson.
IN OTHER NEWS - Sunny Edwards has been handed his first opportunity to fight for a title.
The undefeated 21-year-old will fight his managerial stablemate Ross Murray on November 27.
The vacant WBO European super-flyweight crown will be at stake and the fight is set to take place at Grange St Paul’s Hotel in London, as part of promoter Frank Warren’s 13th annual DEBRA fight night.
