Veteran coach Nacho Beristain has confirmed that former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32KOs) contacted him to inquire about retaining his training services. Chavez was trained for his last couple of fights by Freddie Roach of the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.
Chavez suffered his first career defeat in September to Sergio Martinez and afterwards he tested positive for marijuana.
Chavez has been known for blowing up in weight between camps and prior to a last year's fight with Marco Antonio Rubio he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. The camp for Martinez was reportedly the worst of Chavez's career.
In order to reach an agreement, Chavez will have to accept Nacho's terms for compensation. Chavez will also have to agree to Nacho's training rules - which are very strict.
"So far nothing is clear. Julio spoke to me but we didn't reach an agreement. The are outstanding issues that we have to discuss, but we remain open to further dialogue. They have to pay me what I'm requesting, because I'm no longer eating hard tortillas. If he wants me by his side, he has to pay me," said Beristain.
"Additionally, we would have to come to an agreement on his discipline, which is missing from his workouts. He has to take care of himself, because he is young and handsome and the temptations are there."
