Trainer Nacho Beristain is hoping that Juan Manuel Marquez is able to survive the early assault from WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. Their fight happens on November 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Nacho believes Pacquiao is very dangerous for the first four rounds and Marquez has to withstand those rounds to secure a victory in the trilogy.
“I know we can beat him because we’ve beaten him before,” said Beristain to The Philippine Star. “If we get past the fourth round we’re going to be okay. If he (Pacquiao) doesn’t hurt us too much until the fourth round and we don’t get too crazy I think it will be better."
“Even in the first fight, we knew how to fight this guy but his (Marquez) father told him to go for it, and in the second round he thought he had Manny hurt and he went for it and got caught himself. Those are the things we can’t do. You have to be patient and wait for your opportunity. If you go with him, he has the one punch that can knock you out.
Nacho admits that Pacquiao is much better today than when he fought Marquez to a draw in 2004 and won a split decision in 2008.
“He’s now delivering punches better, more technical. Manny still throws the punches from all angles, but now you can read him a little better,” Beristain said.
