The announcement is almost upon us. In the coming days, most insiders are expecting an official announcement that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26Kos) will defend his WBC welterweight crown against Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero (31-1-1, 18KOs) on May 4th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
BoxingScene.com spoke to three former opponents to get their opinions on the match.
Former three division champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley, who lost a twelve round decision to Mayweather in 2010: It should be a good fight. I'm not exactly sure what happens. Guerrero is a good fighter and Mayweather has been off for a little while so it should be interesting. I worked with Guerrero a lot when he was a lightweight so I know that he knows his stuff.
Former two division champion Zab "Super" Judah, who lost a twelve round decision to Mayweather in 2006: It's going to be good fight. Guerrero is a good fighter. Floyd is an outstanding fighter. I think it's going to be a good fight for Floyd. I give Guerrero a chance [to win]. [I wasn't surprised by the Berto win], when I fought Matthysse [on November 6, 2010] he fought [Vicente Escobedo] on my undercard, [so I know how good Guerrero is]. I like his faith as a Christian too. Him and his wife overcame cancer. That was big for them.
2004 Olympian and former WBC silver welterweight champion Selcuk Aydin, who lost a twelve round decision to Guerrero in 2012: It will not be an easy fight for Floyd Mayweather. Guerrero is tough. He comes in there and he makes you change your entire strategy. His style, he makes you get away from your strategy. He is [physically] strong, so this will not be easy for Mayweather.
