Super middleweight Moreno Fendero will be looking to prove a point against Billi Godoy.
Their bout will be an eight-round undercard attraction Friday in support of the Christian Mbilli-Maciej Sulecki main event at Centre Videotron in Quebec City, Canada.
Fendero, 11-0 (9 KOs), will be fighting for the sixth time since September. Godoy will be the second opponent he faces just this month.
“There is a proverb in the Army: ‘When you think you are done, you are getting old,’” Fendero told BoxingScene via translator. “So I am making sure always to be ready.
“I took short breaks between my fights but always stayed in the gym,” Fendero said. “My activity proves that I am a special fighter.”
Fendero, a 26-year-old from France who now resides and trains in Montreal, is following in the footsteps of his countryman Mbilli. Fendero served in the French Army and uses the moniker “The Soldier” as a tribute to his past. Against Godoy, 41-8 (20 KOs), of Centenario, Argentina, Fendero is aiming to show he belongs at the top of the card on Eye of the Tiger shows in the future.
“This fight is a good step for me, but it remains just a step,” Fendero said. “Like all the others, he is going to go down.”
In preparation for this bout, he has been sparring 2020 Olympian Imam Khataev, who will fight David Morrell Jnr on July 26.
“I sparred Khataev, since we are both southpaws and I can help him a bit,” Fendero said. “There are a lot of good fighters at Marc Ramsey’s gym. I am always surrounded by talent.”
Godoy headlined an Eye of the Tiger card in January 2024, getting stopped by Erik Bazinyan in the third round. Godoy, 38, hasn’t fought since the loss.
“It is about following the game plan, and I will do what I have to do,” Fendero said. “But stopping him faster than Bazinyan is a huge motivation.”
