Moreno Fendero is aiming to put his last fight behind him and become Eye of the Tiger’s next standout super-middleweight.

Fendero, 13-0 (10 KOs), returns against Shawn McCalman on Thursday in a 10-round super-middleweight bout at the Montreal Casino in Montreal, Quebec. Back in November the 26-year-old Frenchman won a close and competitive 10-round unanimous decision over William Langston and is now looking to defeat what he perceives to be a tougher opponent.

“I learned a lot about myself in that [Langston] fight,” Fendero told BoxingScene via translator. “I have rewatched the fight and worked on what I could correct. That is why I didn’t want to take an easier fight. I wanted to take a more difficult fight.”

Because Fendero fought five times in 2025, his turnaround of three months since his last bout might not be a surprise. However, him taking on Shawn McCalman, 17-1 (8 KOs), who is best known for his loss to Diego Pacheco, is.

“Some people might think my return is too early, but I am always ready,” Fendero said. “I want to prove a point.”

McCalman, a 32-year-old from Aurora, Colorado, is on a two-fight win streak. Both wins have been in “stay busy” type bouts, with his last an eight-round unanimous decision over Aaron Casper in November.

“It is a good fight to start the year,” Fendero said. “I like challenges, and I want to prove that was part of my learning experience.”

Eye of the Tiger currently has on their roster the WBC super-middleweight titleholder Christian Mbilli and Osleys Iglesias, who will fight Pavel Silyagin for the vacant IBF super middleweight title on April 9. Fendero hopes to now add his name to the elite talent in the division.

“It is a good test. He is a good fighter with a lot of experience,” Fendero said. “I want to show that I am at the elite level, and it will start with this fight.”
