Moreno Fendero is looking to do what Callum Simpson couldn’t do: stop his next opponent.
Fendero will fight Boris Crighton in an eight-round super middleweight bout on Thursday at the Montreal Casino in Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Fendero, 11-0 (9 KOs), enters on a five-fight knockout streak, one he hopes to extend to six in his upcoming bout.
“Callum Simpson did 10 rounds with him,” Fendero told BoxingScene via a translator. “I don’t plan on going the distance.”
Crighton, 13-5 (7 KOs), is a tough veteran. The 32-year-old from Glasgow, Scotland was once stopped by Craig Richards at light heavyweight, but has gone to decision with British notables such as Lyndon Arthur, Steed Woodall, and Simpson.
“I am fighting a tough guy; he will bring the best out of me,” Fendero said. “He did 10 rounds with Callum Simpson, and that shows how tough he is.”
For this fight, Fendero will have Samuel Décarie in his corner as opposed to his traditional trainer, Marc Ramsay. Ramsay has been in Big Bear Lake, California, in preparation for super middleweight contender Christian M’Billi’s upcoming fight against Lester Martinez on September 13 as part of the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez-Terence Crawford undercard. Décarie has been in the corner of Fendero in previous bouts.
“It doesn’t change much,” Fendero said. “I have a great relationship with Sam. I am in the best shape of my life.”
Fendero, who turned pro in September 2023, believes he will be entering the co-main event and main event spots in the middle of 2026. He is, he feels, on the cusp of becoming a contender, despite being relatively new to the pros.
“This will be my last eight-round fight,” Fendero said. “I hope to fight my first 10-round fight by the end of the year.”
