Former world champion Moises Fuentes (26-4-1, 14 KOs) got revenge with a first round destruction of super flyweight journeyman Ulises Lara (18-16, 10 KOs), who back in July won a ten round majority decision over the veteran in a huge upset. The event was promoted by Zanfer Promotions and televised by TV Azteca throughout Mexico.
Both fights took place at the Auditorio del Sindicato de Trabajadores de IMSS in Mexico City.
The first time around, the judges saw it 97-94, 97-93 for Lara and 95-95 for the draw.
The July loss was a major setback for Fuentes, who was looking to bounce back from a December knockout loss to Kosei Tanaka when they clashed for the vacant WBO world title. Prior to that Fuentes had built up a five fight win streak.
Lara on the other hand, was also coming off a loss when they met in July, by way of a decision in January to Maximino Flores. Lara has fought a lot of tough talent over the years, but is almost every instance he lost by decision or knockout.
This time around, Fuentes was ready to make a big statement that his loss in the first bout was a big fluke.
Fuentes came out swinging from the very first bell and after a serious of big punches had sent Lara down to his knees. Lara took some time to recover, but it didn't take long before Fuentes was back on the attack with big punches from all angles. He connected with a big shot to the liver and that was the closer, as Lara was unable to recover and the referee stopped the fight.
"It was not the same story. I came back with a new team, a winning team and they were hungry just like me. This is the real 'Moi' Fuentes, the titan is back," Fuentes said.
