Miguel Angel "Mikey" Garcia (24-0, 20KOs) of Oxnard, California, secured his second straight knockout with a Dec. 4, fifth-round stoppage of Olivier Lontchi (18-2-2, eight KOs) of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, who was twice floored in the final round.
Garcia's manager Cameron Dunkin would like to have the 23-year-old boxer get a shot at regular WBA 126-pound titlist Jonathan Victor Barros (31-1, 18KOs), of Argentina, a winner of three straight since losing to WBA super world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (19-0, 15 KOs) by unanimous decision in March.
Dunkin would like to see Barros-Garcia on the pay-per-view undercard of a March 12 clash between former world champion Ricardo Mayorga (29-7-1, 22 KOs), and WBA junior middleweight king Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KOs), at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.
"I'm trying to get Mikey a title on March 12 after I talk to [Top Rank President] Todd duBoef today," said Dunkin. "Hopefully, I can pull that off on the Cotto-Mayorga show."
