"Mile High" Mike Alvarado had a great come from behind win against Colombian Breidis Prescott on Saturday night at the MGM Grand on the undercard of the Pacquiao-Marquez fight. In an exciting and bloody affair, Alvarado stopped Prescott in the 10th and final round to secure his victory while being down on all 3 scorecards.
Alvarado had a slow start but finished the show in dramatic fashion. Being on such a big stage it was important for the Denver native to look impressive; he felt the mission was accomplished.
“I know I made a name for myself. Definitely with the way I ended the fight. As for my performance through the whole fight, I wasn’t really satisfied. I should’ve started off a little stronger, a little busier. But it’s the way it goes sometimes” said Alvarado.
Alvarado was cut pretty badly in the fight and was bleeding heavily at certain points. Getting cut effects fighters differently but Alvarado took it in stride.
“No, I really didn’t let it bother me at all” explained Alvarado. “I was concentrating on the fight. I had some blurriness in my left eye. The lip, I could just feel it hanging. It was different for me but it was a real big huge learning experience”.
With the win, Alvarado kept his perfect record intact and has positioned himself to fight some of the best the 140lb division has to offer.
“I’m ready for a title shot man. I showed heart. I showed I’m a good entertaining fighter. So I mean, I deserve it. I’m undefeated. 32-0. Let’s do it. Let’s get this title shot going”.
Alvarado and his team will next sit down with promoter Bob Arum to plan out his next fight and hopefully get in title contention.
