Former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30KOs) will begin training for his next fight in two weeks, according to the boxer's adviser Gaby Peñagarícano. Cotto will go against WBA "regular" junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14KOs) on December 1 at New York's Madison Square Garden. Cotto is coming off the May twelve round decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Peñagarícano told Raul Alzaga that Cotto will start training in Puerto Rico and then head to Orlando, with Cuban coach Pedro Diaz, for the remainder of his camp.
"Miguel will again carry out the bulk of his training in Orlando, where he opened Don Miguel's Boxing Gym, in honor of his father. The idea is that he can work there again free of distractions in Puerto Rico and devote himself to the training outlined by Pedro Luis Diaz," said Peñagarícano.
A two-city press tour is being planned, with stopes in New York and Puerto Rico. The first stop, in Puerto Rico, could take place on a date in the third week of September.
There are negotiations with both HBO and Showtime to carry Cotto's next fight.
"We are negotiating with HBO and Showtime. We are looking for the best deal and once we have it, we will make an announcement," he added.
