Phil Landman, the conditioning trainer and nutritionist for WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto, is confident that his fighter will not have any issues with making the agreed catch-weight of 145-pounds for Saturday's bout with Manny Pacquiao. Cotto's team arrived in Las Vegas early to get adjusted to the climate. The majority of Cotto's camp has taken place in Florida and Puerto Rico.
"Miguel is always very focused on work. Obviously, this time more than ever, because it is the biggest fight of his career since I've been working with him," said Landman to Primera Hora. "He is at a good level, physically and mentally, so he'll be ready for Saturday.
Landman says the decision to arrive early in Las Vegas is going to pay off big on Saturday.
"Miguel has had an excellent training camp. It was a good idea to come to Las Vegas the week before, and that helped us a lot. It was a great decision. When you go to places like Puerto Rico and Florida, it is more humid and you are training at sea level. By contrast, the air is drier in Las Vegas and we are at a greater height [above sea level]. It was a great advantage to hold sparring sessions under these conditions [in Las Vegas]. The rest of the week will be normal and I have no doubt he'll be ready for the weigh-in on Friday," Landman said.
