An article recently ran on BoxingScene.com in which top lightweight contender Michel Rivera stated his desire to challenge Gervonta Davis for his WBA “regular” lightweight title. Michel also stated that If Davis isn’t willing to fight him next, that he should relinquish his belt.

“I have been waiting for a year to become a world champion. It is one of my dreams and the WBA promised me an eliminator bout which hasn’t happened. I am the mandatory to Gervonta Davis’ title so he can fight me or vacate the title,” Rivera previously told BoxingScene.com.

The 24-year-old Dominican Republic native wants to clarify that his ultimate goal is to become a world champion and he doesn’t care who he faces to achieve his dream.

Devin Haney is the undisputed lightweight champion after his dominant June 4th unanimous decision victory over George Kambosos in Australia. He entered the fight with the WBC lightweight title and added the WBO, WBA and IBF titles to his collection.

While Rivera is interested in the secondary title that Davis holds, he also wants to make it clear that he would also love to fight Haney if the Las Vegas resident is available and doesn’t face Kambosos, who has exercised his rematch clause.

“I definitely want to fight Davis but most importantly, I am here to complete all of my goals. It doesn’t matter who I have to fight, I just want to get my chance to fight for a title. We know who the champions are so I would love to face Davis or Haney.  Either one of them. I know I have what it takes to beat both of them,” Rivera told BoxingScene.com.

The 24-year-old Rivera was last in the ring in February when he defeated Joseph Adorno via unanimous decision. His 2021 campaign saw him go 3-0 and included knockouts of Jon Fernández and Anthony Mercado Raíces.
