Michael Coffie had difficulty landing clean punches on Joey Abell before Abell suffered a right biceps injury during the second round Saturday night in Los Angeles.
Abell appeared to hurt his right arm while throwing a punch at Coffie, who was backed against the ropes. With Abell bent over, Coffie caught him with a left to the body and right uppercut to the head as Abell was falling to the canvas.
Abell reached his feet, but he couldn’t continue. Referee Rudy Barragan stopped their scheduled eight-round bout 49 seconds into the second round.
