It's no secret that UFC superstar Conor McGregor (21-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) is a big fan of martial arts icon Bruce Lee.
The MMA fighter is going to make his boxing debut this coming Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
In the other corner will be five division world champion Floyd Mayweather (49-0, 26 KOs), who at 40 years old is coming back from a two year retirement that began in September of 2015.
With zero professional boxing experience, the contest has been labeled as a complete mismatch by most observers in each fighter's respective sport.
A few days ago the Nevada State Athletic Commission approved the use of 8-ounce gloves for the bout, which is taking place at the junior middleweight limit of 154-pounds. Under Nevada Commission rules, any boxer above the welterweight limit of 147 is required to use 10-ounce gloves.
McGregor is planning to go for an early knockout - with his official prediction being a knockout within a four round span. Mayweather is also claiming to make it a real fight by not being defensive and instead choosing to take the fight to McGregor.
In a recent interview, Mayweather mapped out what he believes will be McGregor's entire game plan.
McGregor says Mayweather would have to bring back Bruce Lee himself in order to prepare for this contest. He feels there is no way that any of Mayweather's sparring partners would be able to help him properly prepare in training camp.
“What other mixed martial artist is there like me?” McGregor said to TheMacLife. “He’d need to reincarnate Bruce Lee, and that would be the only person he could bring in that could mimic me with the way that I’m coming at him. I am not like any other mixed martial artist. I am not like any other boxer. I am in a league of my own, and I’ll prove that August 26.”
