Former world champion and trainer Buddy McGirt provides his prediction on a possible fight between eight-division king Manny Pacquiao and six-time champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs) will defend his WBO welterweight title against Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs) on May 7 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. If Pacquiao is successful against Mosley, the next logical fight would be a showdown against Mayweather.
McGirt gives the edge to Mayweather, based on Floyd's ability to adjust in the ring.
"Mayweather makes adjustments. I think it's going to be a very good fight, but Mayweather can make adjustments no matter who he's in there with. He's got a way that once he makes that adjustment, he makes you dance to his rhythm," McGirt said to FanHouse.
The trainer also gave his opinion on a third fight between Pacquiao and Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez. For McGirt, the outcome depends on the contracted weight. If they agree to 140 and above, he gives the nod to Pacquiao. If the fight happens closer to Marquez's natural weight of 135-pounds, then McGirt picks the Mexican champion.
"It depends on the weight. Anything above 140 I would have to go with Pacquiao. If it's below 140, then I would have to go with Marquez," McGirt said.
