MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. was shocked after watching Saturday's performance by Erik Morales, who lost a twelve round majority decision to Marcos Maidana. When the fight was first announced, Mayweather expected a one-sided slaughter. Like most boxing experts who were watching from ringside, Mayweather was shocked with the competitive nature of the fight.
"I thought Morales did damn good. I have to be honest with you. When I heard they were doing that fight, I thought Maidana would tear his ass up in two or three rounds. We all thought that. He showed a lot. I have to be honest with you, after the last couple of rounds, i think it should have been a draw. Maidana won the first couple of rounds but down the stretch he didn't do enough. I thought it could have went either way," Mayweather Sr. said to BoxingScene.com.
