Floyd Mayweather Sr., father and trainer of retired former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., has laughed off a rematch demand by trainer Freddie Roach, who heads Manny Pacquiao's corner.
Mayweather Jr. won a twelve round unanimous decision over Pacquiao on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
After the fight, Pacquiao revealed that he entered the contest with a right shoulder injury. He had surgery a few days later.
Roach feels confident that his fighter, with two healthy hands, would knock Mayweather out in a rematch.
"Freddie ‘The Joke Coach’ Roach, he’s still talking about how he wants Manny Pacquiao to fight Floyd again. Come on man, he needs to go sit down somewhere. Freddie Roach is the joke," Mayweather Sr. told On The Ropes Boxing Radio .
The two trainers have traded words for several years. Mayweather Sr. feels that he finally got the upper-hand on Roach when they went head to head, in opposite corners, in May.
"It was just like my son. My son beat him as a fighter and I beat him as a trainer. It was easy for me to beat him. He’s the one that hasn’t won no damn fights this year, everybody whooped his boys’ ass. All my boys are winning. I have a guy that I’m training that beat his guy good and then I have Ladarius ‘Memphis’ Miller and he beat his guy good. Andrew Tabiti beat his guy good. I don’t hear nothing about Freddie Roach, he’s the joke blowing smoke with no hope," Mayweather Sr. said.
Pacquiao is slated to return in April of next year, likely is a third fight with WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley. Mayweather has been retired since September, but many expect him to fight again.
