Floyd Mayweather Sr., father and trainer of WBC/WBA champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., was not impressed with Manny Pacquiao's recent defense of the WBO welterweight crown, when he capped a six knockdown twelve round decision win over previously undefeated Chris Algieri.
"I’m gonna be truly honest with you, I didn’t even see the fight, I never did. I heard that he got knocked down six times, something like that, nine times somebody said, five times. I don’t really know how many times he got knocked down," Mayweather Sr. told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
Mayweather Sr. considers Algieri to be a "nobody" and says it falls well bellow Floyd's five knockdown TKO win over the late Diego Corrales in 2001.
"I ain’t saying he’s [any] better [now] because he knocked down some nobody. Floyd knocked Diego Corrales about six times and Diego Corrales was a good fighter. Floyd knocked him down about six times. It’s only obvious that if they fight, I’m on my sons side so there’s no other way to look at that but one way. I wouldn’t be looking his way just to be looking, but whatever my son said about it, I don’t believe Pacquiao can whoop him anyways, simple as that," Mayweather Sr. said.
