Despite the tough resistance from Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31KOs) on May 3rd, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (46-0, 26KOs) found it to be an easy fight. He defends his WBC/WBA welterweight titles against Maidana in a Showtime televised rematch on September 13th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather credits Maidana with landing a few punches, but says the rest of his connections were illegal hits.
"It was an easy fight the first time. Just because a guy can come out and basically fight with a windmill style. Pull up the punch stats. That guy missed...half of that stuff was going around [my head]. He landed a few, he landed a few, but that comes with the territory," Mayweather said.
"He cannot fight any better [than he did the first time]. You saw the fight, I turn around quick and make adjustments, and that's what sets me apart from other fighters and other athletes period."
A large Argentine crowd is expected. Mayweather is not worried about the crowd or their effect. He says the fans were unable to help Maidana the first time and they won't be able to help him in the rematch.
"If you watch basketball, a team could have a lead, but once the crowd gets into it - that lead closes and the game gets very, very close. A lot of times the team that was up ends up losing. You look at me and you see the fans screaming the song for Maidana, whatever song it may be I'm not worried about it. But guess what? Nothing is knocking me off my square, because I know the fans cannot fight for the fighter," Mayweather said.
