Herm Harris, who co-manages Brad Solomon along with James Prince, has confirmed to BoxingScene.com that his fighter will appear on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao super-fight. Mayweather-Pacquiao takes place on May 2nd at the MGM Grand and will be distributed by HBO and Showtime on pay-per-view.
Solomon will face an opponent to be determined before the pay-per-view portion of the card begins. BoxingScene.com previously broke the news that fellow Top Rank undefeated fighter Jesse Hart will also appear on the card and will face Mike Jimenez.
Mayweather Promotions will have Chris Pearson against Said El Harrak and Andrew Tabiti versus Anthony Caputo Smith in their two non ppv slots.
"It's about time Brad gets an opportunity like this. He's 24-0 and was a three-time Golden Gloves champ. He won the Golden Gloves after 7 fights. No one has done it faster. I think (Oscar) De La Hoya did it in about 30 fights.
"He's extremely talented. He beat Danny Garcia and Demetrius Andrade in the amateurs. I just feel that if his last name was Sanchez he would have gotten his opportunity by now. It's tough to get him opponents. He has an awkward style so people don't want to fight him," Harris said about Solomon finally catching a break.
Harris said that they hope being showcased on what will be the richest fight in boxing history will launch Solomon's career. With Top Rank now having a television deal with truTV, Solomon may have more options on the horizon.
"I'm happy he's getting this opportunity. Hopefully after this he will be on his way to bigger things," stated Harris while referencing the ups and downs of his fighter's career.
"He came up the hard way taking fights on short notice and coming in as the opponent and upsetting a lot of good guys. We understand the politics of the sport and built in demographics but this kid deserves his shot!"
Harris said they are very honored to be on the historic card and will take advantage of the opportunity.
"It's a honor and privilege to even be considered to be on the undercard of the biggest fight of our generation and we would like to thank Top Rank and especially matchmaker Brad Goodman for always supporting us and keeping it 100," Harris told Boxingscene.com.
