When Floyd Mayweather Jr prepared to fight Victor Ortiz last year, he vowed he wouldn’t move and would stay in the pocket and trade with Ortiz. To his credit, that’s exactly what he did and even though the fight only lasted four rounds, Floyd was pretty offensive and was even the aggressor at times.
When asked if he would stick with the same sort of style against Miguel Cotto, Floyd assured he’d be offensive once again.
“Absolutely. Am I going to be in a very, very aggressive style? I believe so. I just have to see how the fight plays out but I’m going to approach it in a very, very aggressive way and go out there and press the attack early” said Mayweather.
“As you can see in my last fight, as each round went on, I started throwing more and more combinations because I feel that every fighter comes out strong the first, second and third round. But there’s nine more”.
While Miguel Cotto plans to begin his training as soon as the promotional tour is over, Floyd has already began training while on the tour.
“I already started training. I started training on the press tour. I was training at Zab Judah’s father’s gym in Brooklyn. I went there and started working out” informed Floyd.
If that wasn’t enough, Floyd flew into Los Angeles late Tuesday night from New York and headed straight to the Ten Goosen Boxing Gym in Van Nuys which is currently ran by trainer Ricky Funez. Mayweather and his Money Team arrived at 12:45am and trained until a little past 2:30 in the morning. Floyd is known for training at odd hours of the day and this was no exception.
I was allowed into this private training session as Floyd completed a full work out that included hitting the mitts, hitting the heavy bag, jump rope and strength and conditioning exercise. For a fighter who just began training, Floyd looked to already be in tip top shape as he trained non-stop for nearly 90 minutes; a workout he considered to be light.
