Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs) is prepared to go to war on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. For the second time in his career, he moves back up to 154-pounds to challenge Miguel Cotto (37-2, 30KOs) for the WBA junior middleweight title.
Two seasoned fighters, once stablemates under the Top Rank promotional banner, are preparing for a long-awaited battle. Both boxers are keeping their game plans secret. Mayweather respects Cotto's ability and says "he must have done something to get to this level" - but he doesn't really know what Cotto does well. However, he expects to have a good idea once their fight is finished.
"You are never going to tell your secrets. I'm never going to tell you his weakness. Every fighter in boxing, that I face, I know they have a weakness. I'm not going to sit here and tell ya'll. I'm not going to tell nobody," Mayweather said.
"When you guys ask me, 'what does Miguel Cotto do good?' You guys can tell me better than I can tell ya'll. Once I get in there with him, then I can say 'well he does this good and he does that good.' As of right now I don't know what he does good. Because what's going to work on another fighter is not going to work on me."
Most people can agree, Cotto's best chance to win is to stay away from a boxing match. On the other hand, Mayweather is prepared to go to war. And if a war breaks out, he expects Cotto to physically fall apart as the fight goes on.
"If I had to go to war and fight hard, he is not going to be able to outfight me. Cotto is not going to be able to outfight me. Because he bruises, he swells, his eyes close, he's a bleeder. I'm not, I'm not a bleeder. Like I said before, if you cut before you will cut again. I know [I can outfight him] because I've been tested," Mayweather said.
