WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. believes Timothy Bradley made a mistake by not requesting an Olympic style drug testing protocol for his fight with Manny Pacquiao, scheduled for June 9th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Bradley, the WBO's champion at 140-pounds, will move up in weight to challenge Pacquiao for his WBO title at 147.
For Mayweather's last three fights - against Shane Mosley, Victor Ortiz and the pending battle on May 5th with Miguel Cotto - a random drug testing protocol was a necessary requirement, by Mayweather, to finalize a deal.
Even during his ongoing media tour to promote the fight with Cotto, Mayweather has taken shots at Pacquiao, by telling the Filipino star to "take the test" - despite the fact that Pacquiao has already agreed to Mayweather's testing demands.
The biggest obstacle in making a Mayweather-Pacquiao mega-clash, at the moment, is money. Mayweather refuses to give Pacquiao an even 50-50 split of revenue, and recently said that a guarantee of $30 million with no back-end should make Pacquiao happy.
"Floyd Mayweather is a winner, and at the end of the day - Floyd Mayweather is not a cheater. If I was Timothy Bradley, I’d have Manny Pacquiao take random blood and urine testing," Mayweather said.
