WBO/WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. understands why the boxing public is not pleased with the in-ring action of his mega-fight with Manny Pacquiao.
The two boxers fought in the richest event in boxing history on May 2nd, with Mayweather winning a twelve round unanimous decision. The officials scored it 118-110, 116-112, 116-112.
The fight broke the pay-per-view record that Mayweather set in 2007 for his clash with Oscar De La Hoya, which generated 2.48 million purchases. The PPV with Pacquiao has already brought in 4.4 million buys.
Mayweather said he recently posted a video to the social networks, for Throwback Thursday, where he stated in a interview dating back several years ago - that he would nullify and oubox Pacquiao in a fight where the fans would call it "boring" afterwards.
"If you go back, even if you look at my page on Facebook, Twitter and Instragam - Throwback Thursday, I posted a video....six years ago of what I said....that when I beat Pacquiao people would say it was boring. It's not my fault that I was able to alleviate anything he was trying to do. Whatever your best attribute is, I take it away from you and disarm you, and that's what I did [with Pacquiao]," Mayweather told DJ. Whoo Kid on Shade 45 Radio.
As reported earlier, as far as the fans who are upset, Mayweather says the outrage should be directed to Pacquiao.
"If people want to be upset, be upset with the guy who couldn't set the traps for Floyd Mayweather. Be upset at the guy who used to throw 1,000 punches and then resorted to throwing 400 punches. Please don't be mad at me, I'm a winner and I've done what I had to do. I wish Pacquiao nothing but the best, I did what I had to do and I was the better man."
