Detroit, Michigan - WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. spoke to BoxingScene.com and several other outlets about a variety of topics - including his upcoming fight with Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero and the new deal with Showtime/CBS. Mayweather was present at the final press conference to support Saturday's Showtime televised card at the Masonic Temple Theatre. Mayweather's company, Mayweather Promotions, is co-promoting the event with Golden Boy Promotions.
It was announced on Tuesday that Mayweather had left HBO and signed a six fight deal with network rival Showtime. The deal spans 30 months and likely secures Mayweather for the remainder of his career to Showtime. Mayweather feels like a new man after spending the entire portion of his high profile run with HBO.
Mayweather (43-0, 26 KOs) will make his Showtime debut, on pay-per-view, on May 4th when he defends the WBC welterweight title against Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KOs), the WBC's mandatory challenger.
"Showtime and CBS, they are partners, they came together and like I said before I couldn't ask for a better deal. If you don't got Showtime, you have to go out and purchase it because you can not miss Floyd Mayweather and Mayweather Promotions - the past, the present and the future of sports and entertainment. And of course CBS, they have been here for years. For the next 30 months I will give you excitement. I'm excited. It's about staying active, and before my career ends I'm going to give the fans a lot more of what they want to see," Mayweather said to BoxingScene.com and several others.
"Everybody has CBS. If you don't have Showtime, call your local cable company right now, right now. Call your local cable company [and order Showtime]. It's Showtime baby! People want excitement and that's what I'm here to give them. I'm happy. I got a divorce, I'm married again. Showtime/CBS is the future of boxing."
