According to a report in the Manchester Evening News,  promoter Dennis Hobson is currently involved in very serious talks with the advisers of WBC welterweight champ Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and HBO regarding a potential Ricky Hatton-Mayweather bout.

It was said by the paper that Hobson and Hatton are expected to find out in the next 48-hours if the fight is a done deal.

If the fight falls apart, Oscar De La Hoya has shown interest in fighting Hatton in Wembley, but that encounter would not take place until 2008.

Both sides are looking at November 10 as the pay-per-view date, with a yet to be announced Las Vegas venue being the site.

A reliable source told MEN Sport: "It's getting very, very close and I reckon that the next 24 hours will decide things one way or the other, 48 hours at the most, as it will take 24 to come to an agreement and another 24 to run it past all parties."
