Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs) is less than two weeks away from his scheduled defense of the WBC/WBA welterweight titles against Andre Berto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The September 12th showdown will be carried by Showtime Pay-Per-View.
The bout has drawn a lot of heat on Mayweather, with Berto being such a huge underdog and coming in with a 3-3 ratio in his last six fights.
Mayweather, who says the fight will be the final one of his pro career, selected Berto for his exciting toe to toe performances.
“Every time Berto goes out there, he's in an exciting fight. he's a two-time world champion, he's an exciting fighter. When he fought Robert Guerrero, he had two closed eyes and kept fighting. When he fought Victor Ortiz, Ortiz knocked him down and he got right back up and continued fighting. He's a very exciting fighter,” Mayweather said.
There are still fights out there for Mayweather, but he feels that he already faced, and beat, everyone that was considered to be the best of his era.
“It doesn't matter who the opponent is, [critics are] never happy. They said Pacquiao was a god, I beat him. I fought Cotto, Canelo, Diego Corrales when he was undefeated. [I fought] all the best fighters of my era, I've fought and beat them."
