According to the Las Vegas Sun, Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, which promotes both Juan Manuel Marquez and Marco Antonio Barrera, has called for a rematch between the two Mexican fighters.

Schaefer told the paper that he working on securing the rematch for the weekend of Sept. 16, which is Mexico's independence day.

Last Saturday, the two Mexican warriors fought a fight-of-year battle at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. While some ringside observers saw Marquez winning a very close decision, the official ringside judges barely scored any rounds for Barrera. Even Marquez said the fight was closer than the official scorecards which read 118-109, 116-111 and 116-111, all for Marquez.

Barrera has not made up his mind about a rematch, but Marquez is all for it. Should Barrera turn the rematch down, Marquez would like to get another crack at Manny Pacquiao.

"If Marco Antonio Barrera wants a rematch, of course," Marquez said. "I'm glad to accept that rematch. I think Marco Antonio is a great fighter. I'd take that rematch right away. If not, then Manny Pacquiao can be next."
