Rolando Arellano, manager of WBA interim-junior welterweight champion Pablo Cesar Cano (25-1-1, 19KOs), confirmed to BoxingScene.com that an offer is on the table for his boxer to face WBA welterweight king Paulie Malignaggi (31-4, 7KOs) on October 20th at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The event, part of Barclays' grand opening weekend, will be headlined by a junior welterweight rematch between Danny Garcia and Erik Morales.

Showtime and Showtime Extreme will be televising various fights on the card.

This past Saturday in Mexico, Cano scored a big career victory with a majority decision over previously undefeated Johan Perez to capture the WBA's interim-belt. Cano has not accepted the fight with Malignaggi, at least not yet.

"I actually want to speak with [Cano]. I want to actually have the team look at the video [of Malignaggi]. I want to make sure that he's not at an unfair advantage at 147. Once I am assured that we can perform, adequately, at that division, then I will give [Golden Boy CEO] Richard [Schaefer] the final answer. From a management perspective, I think its a good opportunity for him. He's young, he's a good fighter and Paulie Malignaggi is a good fighter also but he doesn't have a big bang," Arellano told BoxingScene.com.

The World Boxing Association recently ordered Cano to face Joan Guzman for the full WBA title at 140-pounds. That doesn't appear to be on Cano's radar right now.

"I don't know about Joan Guzman. I think basically it's not [about] what the WBA wants, [but] it's about what makes sense for my fighter. I appreciate that we're champion, but it is my fighter who is getting the television dates, it is my fighter who is going to be getting on the card at the venue, so I'm not going to let other people dictate who my fighter is going to fight," Arellano said.

Malignaggi, speaking to ESPN New York's Michael Woods, said he won't overlook Cano if the fight is finalized.

"Cano I have to take seriously," he said. "He's a very good body puncher, he'll try to take my legs away. I will take him seriously."
