If Chris Algieri (20-0, 8KOs) is able to pull of the upset on November 22nd over WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, then former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi believes the Long Island fighter is guaranteed to receive a shot at WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26KOs).
"I’d like to see Keith Thurman get a shot. I’m sure everybody wants to see Manny Pacquiao get a shot. Who knows, I’m sure in the next ten months, many things will be talked about but we’ll see. If Chris Algieri beats Pacquiao, I guarantee you he gets the shot," Malignaggi told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
Mayweather dominated most of the action in his rematch with Marcos Maidana earlier this month. For Mayweather he wasn't fully pleased with his victory, stating that he felt better in the first fight.
"I don’t know what to attribute that too, but I just think Floyd is his own worse critic. When you’re a competitor at that level, you’re gonna be highly critical of yourself and you’re gonna be more critical on yourself than other people. You’re gonna be critical of yourself for the things you understand," Malignaggi said.
