The list is getting crowded. Chalk that up to Floyd Mayweather and the Super Six tournament.
Mayweather was going to be removed from the list in its first update since April of this year. Inactive for a year and with no fight signed is typically the standard for removal. Then he goes and signs to fight the best Welterweight in the world not named Manny Pacquiao and Mayweather, whose inactivity had seen him slip recently anyways, got some grace with room to grow.
And, seriously, how silly would it have looked to pull him after the Ortiz loss.
Then there are the Super Middleweights. Andre Ward and Carl Froch both looked fantastic in their semi-final tournament wins. Froch is on one of the best runs of competition in the game. Ward has bested four straight in his classes top ten and never been in danger. Each has earned a place, but in what order?
Their inclusion means exits for others. Flyweight king Pongsaklek Wonjongkam has done little of note since a career saving win over Koki Kameda last year and, while Bantamweight Anselmo Moreno does have a fight scheduled after a year of inactivity, the fight isn’t quite good enough to keep him on the list for now.
How does it all shake out?
