WBA junior welterweight interim-champion Marcos Maidana went over last Saturday's tough twelve round decision win over DeMarcus Corley. Maidana said Corley fought very dirty and said there was some pressure by fighting before a hometown crowd of nearly 15,000 fans at Luna Park in Argentina. Maidana got very tired by the end of the fight because he spent a lot of energy chasing a knockout.

"The fight was a little dirty. I got hit with his head and then my cut devolved. The truth is, it was a war. He is a good boxer who came to take the title, but he left here with empty hands," said Maidana to John Jones. "I had pressure fighting in Luna Park. Everyone was looking forward to the fight, so I wanted to go for the knockout, and he is not an easy boxer to knock out. The public came to see a knockout and did not see a knockout. But I'm happy because of the way the audience responded and I was proud to fight here."

Maidana now plans to rest for a few weeks before returning to the gym. He wants Golden Boy Promotions to finalize a deal for a fight with full WBA champion Amir Khan on December 11 in England. If Maidana can't get Khan, he wants to challenge WBO champion Timothy Bradley. If Maidana wants Bradley, he might have to wait a while to get him. Bradley is close to a deal to fight WBC/IBF champion Devon Alexander on January 29.

"I want to rest and eat a couple of barbecues and then start again with everything. I won an important fight, because if you come to fight in Luna Park, you have to do it with someone good. I want my next fight to be against the best. Therefore, I either want Bradley, Khan or whoever," Maidana said.
