Panama's former WBA world champion Luis "El Nica" Concepcion had a quick return, destory Mexican veteran Manuel "Chango" Vargas in the first round at the Arena Roberto Duran in Panama City, Panama. A powerful right to the jaw of Vargas was instrumental in the explosive knockout at just 1:16 into the first round. Concepcion wanted to make a statement and wanted to end the match early and did so against an opponent who was surprised by the power and deep strike capability of Panamanian boxer.
There was a lot of interest in this presentation of Concepcion, who in his previous fight back in April, was knocked out by Mexico's Hernan "Tyson" Marquez, and in the proscess lost the flyweight title of the World Boxing Association (WBA).
With this result, Concepcion improved his record to 23-2 with 18 knockouts, while Vargas dropped to 30-9-1, with 15 knockouts. Now, Concepcion might be looking for a rematch with "Tyson" Marquez.
