The last we saw of Lucas Matthysse he was on the losing end of a tenth round TKO at the hands of Viktor Postol for the vacant WBC 140-pound title last October in Carson.

During that bout, he suffered a significant injury to his left eye. He was initially supposed to return on this past weekend's Canelo vs. Khan HBO pay-per-view card - but passed on the opportunity and there were rumors that the Argentine slugger would retire from the ring.

He was in Las Vegas this weekend for the Saul Alvarez-Amir Khan fight, alongside his manager Mario Arano, who met up with the Golden Boy Promotions brass in the media center at the MGM Grand on Saturday afternoon.

Matthysse is now looking for a fall return and wants to try his hand in the welterweight divsion.

Shortly after their pow-wow, Eric Gomez, the Sr. VP of Golden Boy explained to Boxingscene.com - "We just had a meeting with him and he's going to be back. He wants to try the welterweight division. His eye feels a lot better now, he just got clearance from a doctor so he wants to come back in October, November. He wants to take his time to get in shape."

Matthysse, who has a career record of 37-4 (34 KO's), is 33 years old.

"We're not going to rush him and he'll be back,"stated Gomez.
