Lindolfo Delgado once again needed two tries to make weight.
As was the case during Friday’s official weigh-in, the unbeaten junior welterweight contender was initially over the limit for the IBF 2nd-day hydration check. Mexico’s Delgado ultimately came correct and weighed 149.4lbs, just under the 150lbs limit required to move forward with his title eliminator versus countryman Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela.
Saturday’s session saw Gollaz come in well under the mark at 145.2lbs, adding just 6lbs from Friday’s official weigh-in. Delgado was officially 10.4lbs heavier than his official weight of 139lbs less than 24 hours ago.
Their scheduled 12-round clash will determine the mandatory challenger to current IBF 140lbs titlist Richardson Hitchins, 20-0 (8 KOs). ESPN Knockout and Top Rank Classics FAST channel (ROKU, Tubi, VIZIO and Pluto TV will air the bout as part of Saturday’s four-fight telecast, beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET/1:00 a.m. GMT from Arena Coliseo in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
Delgado, 23-0 (16KOs), who represented Mexico in the 2016 Rio Olympics, was 140.8lbs on his first official weigh-in attempt on Friday, but shed nearly 2lbs when he returned less than two hours later. Gollaz, 31-4-1 (17KOs) weighed 139.2lbs on his only trip to the scales on Friday.
The attractive matchup – viewed by many as the potential show-stealer – comes in support to Rafael Espinoza’s WBO 126lbs title defense versus Arnold Khegai. Guadalajara’s Espinoza, 27-0 (24 KOs) fights in his home country for the first time in more than two years; the entirety of his title reign has taken place in the U.S.
Delgado-Gollaz was the only bout subject to a 2nd day weigh-in, in accordance with IBF sanctioned contests.
