It was perceived that last month's Jermain Taylor-Cory Spinks clash from Memphis would be the last time we got to hear expert analyst Larry Merchant on HBO. Reportedly HBO was not going to renew his contract and he was going to be replaced by Max Kellerman. A very negative reaction from thousands of boxing fans made the bigwigs at HBO think twice about the move.
It was announced by HBO that a new agreement is still being negotiated with Merchant, who agreed to work the Miguel Cotto vs. Zab Judah pay-per-view on June 9.
“As we optimistically iron out a new agreement with Larry Merchant, Larry has agreed to work Saturday’s HBO Pay-Per-View telecast from Madison Square Garden,” said Rick Bernstein, HBO Sports, executive producer.
