In a recent article that appeared in the Philadelphia Daily News , HBO broadcaster Larry Merchant, 76, refused to comment on the strong rumor that HBO did not renew his contract after 29-years with the network, and that Max Kellerman, 33, will replace him on future HBO telecasts.
When contacted by the paper, Merchant simply replied - "On the record, all I can say is 'No comment.' HBO also refused to comment when contacted by the paper.
According to the article, Merchant's final dates with HBO have come down to working the May 5 pay-per-view between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr., and the May 19 middleweight bout between Jermain Taylor and Cory Spinks. Kellerman's debut in Merchant's position can be as early as the June 9 pay-per-view bout between Miguel Cotto and Zab Judah.
