Lamont Peterson has one of the toughest assignments of his career ahead of him as he will be facing interim WBC Junior Welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse this Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall airing live on Showtime.

Matthysse has made a name for himself due to his recent destruction of competition and his lethal punching power. Peterson was on the most recent edition of BoxingScene Radio and said while he may not be regarded as a puncher, he feels he’s not given enough credit for his power.

“With me, I'm more of the workman like boxer. A lot of people don't give me credit for  my punching power which is okay with me because if you think you're just going to run in there on me and put pressure on me or going to keep me off you, you're going to realize quickly that it’s not that easy. I don't think there's anyone that I've fought that I didn't hurt” Peterson would tell BoxingScene Radio.

“I might not have knocked them down or knocked them out but I'm pretty sure I hurt every fighter that I've fought. At the end of the day on the outside looking in it might seem that way. Or they might look at my record and it might seem that way but ask anybody that I've fought, they wouldn't tell you the same”.

Peterson-Matthysse will also serve as part of the first leg of a 140 pound tourney Golden Boy is putting on with the winner of this fight slated to face Danny Garcia next.

Some may see it as Peterson and Matthysse got the short end of the stick as Khan is getting a free ticket to the finals and Garcia faced Zab Judah who isn’t regarded as one of the best at 140.

Peterson however just takes it in stride and being the true competitor and champion that is, he says he doesn’t mind it one bit.

“I wouldn't have it any other way. And just knowing the little bit that I know about Matthysse, he probably wouldn't have it any other way either. Sometimes it’s the way the cards fall and I'm just happy to be fighting at the championship level. Regardless, I’ll probably end up fighting the top guys anyway so if it’s the first fight, so be it” said Peterson.
