Michael Koncz, the adviser for WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, is confident the fight with Antonio Margarito will sell out Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas on November 13. Pacquiao will meet Margarito at a catch-weight of 151-pounds for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title.
The finalize the details of the fight, Margarito must first receive approval for a boxing license in the state of Texas. On Wednesday the California State Athletic Commission denied his application for a license to box in their state. Margarito wasted no time in faxing over his application to obtain a boxing license in Texas. A decision by the Texas commission is expected shortly.
Pacquiao's March fight with Joshua Clottey drew 51,000 fans to Cowboys Stadium. Prior to the Pacquiao fight, Clottey was unknown to most boxing fans and he was never a big ticket seller. On the other hand, Margarito has showcased his ability to draw thousands of Mexican fans to his fights in California, Las Vegas and Mexico. Based on the number of fans who follow both Pacquiao and Margarito, Koncz is predicting an evening of record breaking numbers.
"We believe that we can sell out the whole venue with Antonio Margarito and set a new record," Konz said. "Last time, we set a new record over there with 51,000 as a live gate, and I think that this time, we'll surpass the number of about 70,000."
