Bernd Boente, manager of Wladimir Klitschko, is hoping that a full investigation takes place into the recent doping allegations which surfaced last week in connection with Tyson Fury.
Last November in Dusseldorf, Germany - Fury shocked the sport by outboxing Klitschko to a twelve round unanimous decision and capturing the WBO/IBO/WBA/IBF heavyweight titles. It was Klitschko's first defeat in eleven years.
A rematch between the boxers was scheduled to take place on July 9 in Manchester. Fury recently withdrew after suffering an ankle injury in training camp. According to media reports, the fight has been postponed until October.
On Sunday, a bombshell surfaced when British newspaper The Mirror reported that a drug test sample taken from Fury in the period from February to March 2015 showed traces of a prohibited substance - anabolic steroid nandrolone. That paper reported that UKAD [British Anti-Doping Agency] was conducting an ongoing investigation.
Fury and his team issued a statement denying the allegations. The boxer's legal team is handling the matter and there is no further comment from their side. UKAD refused to comment on the subject matter.
Boente is hoping UKAD follows through with the investigation and takes action if anything improper is discovered.
"We hope that the British Anti-Doping Agency will conduct a full investigation and take consistent action. This case should not crumble, as was the case with Dr. Mark Bonar," Boente said.
Based on the anti-doping regulations in the UK - Fury could face a two-year ban, and forfeiture of all of his world titles, if the allegations were proven to be true.
